UNDERGRADUATE ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS

Admissions into the B. Tech (Marine Engineering) programme are through the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB). Candidates are required to satisfy both the University and the Departmental/Faculty requirements.

UNIVERSITY REQUIREMENTS
  1. Admission through Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME)

    School Certificate GCE '0' level with credit passes in 5 appropriate subjects including English Language obtained in not more than 2 sittings and passed post UTME at a prescribed level. (Such candidates shall be admitted into year I of the degree programmes)

  2. Admission by Direct Entry

    1. HSC/GCE 'A' Level passes in two (2) relevant subjects plus SC/GCE 'O' Level Credit passes (including English Language) in three (3) other subjects at not more than two (2) sittings;
    2. HSC/GCE 'A' Level passes in three (3) relevant subjects plus SC/GCE '0' Level Credit passes (including English Language in two (2) other subjects at not more than two (2) sittings
    3. Holders of OND/ND, U.D. (RSUST) Certificates with upper credit are eligible for admission to Year II of the relevant degree programme, provided that such candidates also satisfy the requirements for admission through UTME
  3. Admission to Year III

    Holders of HND are eligible for admission to Year III of the relevant degree programme, provided that such candidates also satisfy the requirements for admission through UTME.

DEPARTMENT/FACULTY REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION INTO THE PROGRAMME
  1. Admission through UTME

    SC/GCE '0' Level credit passes in five (5) subjects including English language, Physics, Chemistry and either Mathematics or Addition Mathematics.

  2. Admission by Direct Entry

    1. Admission to Year II
      1. At least two (2) 'A' level passes at GCE or its equivalent including physics and mathematics. Candidates must also have three (3) Credit Level passes at SC/GCE '0' Level including English Language and Chemistry.
      2. Holders of OND/ND, U.D. (RSUST) certificates with upper credit in the relevant discipline, provided that such candidates also satisfy the requirements for admission through UTME
      3. Bachelors degree in Science/Technology
    2. Admission to Year III

      HND in the relevant discipline provided that such candidates also satisfy the requirements for admission through UTME.

    3. Special Consideration

      In exceptional cases, a pass in English Language may be accepted.

MINIMUM DURATION

The Minimum duration of the B. Tech. programme in Marine Engineering is five years (i.e. 10 Semesters) comprising both classroom lecture and supervised industrial work experience scheme (SIWES) period. Nine semesters of course work is spent in the University made up of two semesters in each of years I, II, III and V and the first semester of year IV.

The long vacation periods of 3 months at the end of each of year LI and III are spent in shore-based establishments. A 6 months sea-training period from the end of the first semester of year IV is spent on board sea-going or coastal vessels owned by shipping, fishing, oil production and oil servicing companies, oil production rigs, FPSO and platforms.
